#19. Winter solstice in the Southern hemisphere today...

... but 15.6 C (61F) at 6 am, and got up to 18 C. And the water temps still 21C (72F). So despite the cute Google graphic, feels nothing like the past 8 winters we'd gotten used to in NYC.
Sydney sunrise this morning. And this is interesting: Bondi Beach water temperatures peak in the range 22 to 25°C (72 to 77°F) on around the 5th of February and are at their lowest on about the 18th of July, in the range 16 to 20°C (61 to 68°F). Bondi Beach water temperatures are always warm reach their highest at the beginning of February. You'll need a 2mm neoprene top or a shorty at dawn/dusk or if it's windy. The lowest seasonal water temperatures at Bondi Beach in the third week of July lend themselves to a 4/3mm wetsuit or a 3/2mm suit and 3mm neoprene boots.
However, actual sea surface water temperatures close to shore at Bondi Beach can vary by several degrees compared with these open water averages. This is especially true after heavy rain, close to river mouths or after long periods of strong offshore winds. Offshore winds cause colder deep water to replace surface water that has been warmed by the sun. Air temperature, wind-chill and sunshine should also be considered before deciding on the kind of wetsuit needed to stay warm when surfing at Bondi Beach. This info comes from surf-forecast.com which offers detailed weather forecasts with this information.

#18. At Long Last, Cleveland Has a Champion

In memory of my old friend, Barry Sheahan. "ya gotta love it". You can RIP now, Barry.
The Cavaliers became the first team to rally from a 3-1 series deficit in the N.B.A. finals by beating the Golden State Warriors, 93-89. It was the first major title for the city since 1964, when the Browns won the AFC. Approx 200 consecutive losing seasons. They were up to about 100 when Barry and I were at the Clinic listening each night to "The Professor" Jeff Sindelar and rooting for the Browns, Cavs & Indians.

#15. A wet weekend ahead

(by Rachel Levy SMH) NSW residents are being warned to prepare for a weekend deluge of up to 300 millimetres of rain - more than twice the monthly average in some northern parts of the state - following the likely formation of an east coast low near the NSW-Queensland border. For Sydney, falls could reach 140mm from Saturday to Monday, with totals dependent on how long the low lingers just off shore. The average monthly rainfall for Sydney in June is 132mm.On current forecasts, Sydney is expecting showers on Friday with 3-10mm of rain.
Saturday is forecast to bring more rain, with 15-40mm forecast, as winds pick up to 40km/h throughout the day. The rain on Sunday is expected to be heavier still, with 30-80mm and winds of up to 45km/h forecast. A further 6-20mm could fall on Monday, when the rain is expected to ease.Jane Golding, the weather bureau's acting NSW regional director, said that, as the weather system moved south from Queensland, it was likely to develop into an east coast low. "The system will likely impact the entire NSW coast and adjacent ranges over the weekend, with widespread heavy rain and high winds that have the potential to cause riverine and flash flooding, bring trees down and cause property damage," she said.
